All through out the weekend we received a substantial amount of threats and hate mail from Mr. Derek Flores and people on social media they are siding with him in this case where he was shown on a yYouTube video

being offensive to a local Rio Grande Valley Sound Technician called Matt Rios. Derek Flores has not PAID HIS FEES TO THIS LOCAL PROMOTER, even though he promised via telephone and in messages that he will. Matt Rios decided to place the video public again and friends in common are asking for the public help in getting this promoter to pay up. IF YOU KNOW DEREK FLORES AND HE OWES YOU FOR SERVICES RENDERED, PLEASE GET IN CONTACT WITH THE PROPER AUTHORITIES. THE LOCAL MUSIC SCENE HAS SUFFERED ENOUGH!

DeleteAside from that one doesnt need a license or permit to promote shows unless the city requires it. I should know I too am and have been a promoter for the last three years. Your facts aren't accurate so this could be considered slander.

Once, as a child, some kid pissed me off, so I threw her shoe in a ball pit and lost it. She thought she won by telling her dad on me and I told the dad it wasn't me and pointed to a kid who had the same hair and claimed that I was never in the ball pit. Poor sucker got a scolding from the father and his own mother and had to find the shoe.
Moral of the story
1) I'm smarter and probably a bigger asshole than you think you are.
2) If I'm going down, I'm taking everyone I can with me.

Im not Derek Flores. Im a well known promoter in the RGV and have thrown my fair share of shows in pretty much every venue in town and have worked with alot of bands. As I memtioned I know both Derek and Matt. Ive talked to Matt about all of this and he's taking the video down because he realizes this is all getting out of hand. There are always two sides to every story and this blog is one sided to say the least.

DeleteIts a bloggers responsibilty to post known facts, not hearsay. Yes Derek handled himself extremely poorly. I've run sound for him before and always got paid without issue. This is just an unfortunate situation for everyone involved. Bottom line is putting anyone on blast with only one side of the story only paints half a picture.

ReplyDeleteRead the law on slander. Its clear. If there were never any PDs involved like stated on this blog then you can be held accountable for the slandering of another person. Freedom of speech is one thing. Publicly making claims about someone with false information is another story. Watch the video, Derek never said he wasnt going to pay Matt. He was acting like a dick no doubt and Matt was being cool but at the same time, what was happening before the camera phone came out? Something none of us know because it wasn't documented.
